"I am beyond lucky to have done something I've loved for the better part of my entire life." "I would sit out in my driveway and stare at every cruiser that drove by," Kaselouskas said. Kaselouskas confirmed Santanella's story and said he wanted to be an Enfield police officer since he was about 3 years old. "I am very proud to be in a position to see you ascend to this role," Santanella said. Town Council member John Santanella recalled a story he's heard about Kaselouskas, as a very young child, being "enamored" with a police car and running to see it when an officer came to visit family on Roosevelt Avenue. "We understand all the sacrifices you have made over the years with your husband and father and will likely make more." "My main focus is to say thank you to the family," said Deputy Mayor Gina Cekala. "Your value and commitment to the department is second to none," said Mayor Bob Cressotti, adding that Golden provided a wonderful tribute to his colleague. Town Council members and the audience gave him a standing ovation immediately following the vote. The Town Council on Monday unanimously adopted a resolution to fill the position of deputy chief with Kaselouskas at a salary of $136,000. The position of deputy chief has been open since June 2020 when Hall retired. Kaselouskas and Golden have been serving as captains since then. When Fred Hall was promoted to deputy chief in May 2019, Kaselouskas was promoted to the rank of captain. In December 2001, he was promoted to sergeant, and to lieutenant in April 2007. Town officials said Kaselouskas certainly has institutional knowledge and is a tremendous asset to the police department.Īssistant Town Manager Steven Bielenda said Kaselouskas joined the Enfield Police Explorers in 1987 when he was 13 years old and was hired as a patrol officer in January 1993. Hanging onto institutional knowledge is therefore essential for the department's continuity with a strong command staff, Golden said on behalf of Kaselouskas, who has been Golden's friend for 26 years and was one of his best men at his wedding 23 years ago.
